Wild Goose Chase Quilt

Use scrap fabrics to make this simple, yet elegant Wild Goose Chase Quilt

Fabrics Needed to Make this Quilt

1 3/8 yards of a variety of fabrics for the "geese"

5/8 yards of light background fabric (The background can be scraps or all one fabric)

1 1/2 yards for the strips between the rows of blocks and the inner border

1 1/4 yards for the outer border

The finished quilt measures 52 1/2" high by 39" wide.

Note on Yardage Calculations: Since foundation piecing takes more fabric than conventional piecing, I have added an extra 1/8 yard to each fabric to allow for waste.

Blocks Needed to make this Quilt

Print 30 copies of Flying Geese #3. Set the finished size to 4" wide by 8" high. This block is in the Geese Folder.

Pieceing Diagrams

Step 1: Print 30 copies of Flying Geese #3.
This block is in the Geese Folder. Set the finished size to 4" wide by 8" high. Trim each foundation.

Step 2: Sew the blocks. Click here for instructions on how to sew foundation blocks. Use dark scraps for the large triangles and light scraps for the smaller triangles.

Step 3: Sew 5 blocks together to form one long vertical row. Repeat 6 times so that you have 6 rows of 5 blocks each.

Step 4: Cut 7 strips of fabric 1 1/2 " wide by 40 1/2 " inches long. These will be the sashing strips.

Step 5: Sew one sashing strip between each row of blocks as shown. You will sew 5 strips.

Step 6: Sew one remaining strip to the left and one strip to right edge of the quilt.

Step 7: Cut 2 strips of fabric 1 1/2 " wide by 31 1/2" long. Sew these strips to the top and bottom of the Quilt.

Step 8: Sew Outer Border

Cut 2 strips of fabric 4 1/2 " wide and 43" inches long. Sew these strips to the right and left edges of the quilt.

Next, Cut 2 strips of fabric 4 1/2" wide and 39 1/2" inches long. Sew the strips to the top and bottom of the quilt.

The Quilt top is now complete.
